Healthy Eating

HEALTHY EATING

We have a no nuts policy in our setting due to the risk of allergies.

Children are provided with a healthy snack during their session here at Greencoat Nursery. Menus are prepared by staff and followed on a weekly basis. All dietary requirements for e.g. allergies are recorded and displayed (with child’s full name and photo) in the kitchen as well as the play rooms. All staff are aware of any dietary requirements that each child has and will offer alternatives if need be. Children are provided with a range of fruits and vegetables as well different types of bread, cheese and hummus. Working alongside the Startwell programme to help children eat healthier and be more physically active in their early years.

The menu is reviewed every term, this allows children to explore their senses with food and expand their likes and dislikes.

Our current current snack menu is Startwell approved.

Lunch

Some of our children are full time, therefore they do stay for lunch and lunches are usually provided by parents or carers. Parents/carers are encouraged to provide a healthy lunch that should include e.g. sandwich, fruits, yoghurts, vegetables, raisins etc. Children are offered drinks at nursery from a few options; water, juice or milk. Children are encouraged to eat independently however staff will support.

Parents and carers are also reminded to cut small pieces of fruits such as grapes in half due to it being a choking hazard.
